Veneers and Laminates

Dental veneers, also known as porcelain veneers or laminates, are thin shells made from porcelain or resin. These shells are adhered to the front surface of your teeth in order to improve the color, shape, and size of your teeth. In some cases, they can even be used to correct the alignment and spacing of your teeth, as well as to restore broken, chipped, or cracked teeth. Because of the material they are manufactured from, veneers also have the ability to resist future stains. Overall, veneers offer a conservative approach to a smile makeover.

Did You Know?

If well taken care of, veneers have the ability to last about 15-20 years on average, sometimes longer. However, even if they don’t last forever, veneers are highly resistant to scratches and stains, and are easy to replace if they become damaged or worn.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for veneers?

You may be a candidate for veneers if you are looking to restore your smile, but want to avoid having a dental crown placed. Additionally, you may be a candidate for veneers if you wish to eliminate gaps between your teeth, adjust the size of your teeth, or if you have teeth that are broken, chipped, or resistant to teeth whitening. What should I expect when getting dental veneers at Glen Park Family Dentistry?

When having veneers placed at Glen Park Family Dentistry, you can first expect to be anesthetized and have your teeth prepared. To ensure the veneers will fit well and not make your teeth look “bulky”, a small fraction of your natural tooth structure will need to be gently shaved off. Once the affected teeth have been prepared, a dental impression will be taken and used to fabricate your veneers in a dental lab. When the veneers arrive from the dental lab, you will return to Glen Park Family Dentistry to have your veneers fitted, adhered, and adjusted in terms of size and color.

Will I need to follow any post-treatment care guidelines?

Once your veneers have been applied, they will not require any special care other that your usual dental routine of brushing twice a day for two minutes, flossing once a day, and visiting Glen Park Family Dentistry once every six months for your dental checkup and professional teeth cleaning. Additionally, to avoid damaging your veneers, you will want to avoid destructive behaviors like nail biting, chewing ice, and using your teeth as an opener. It is also important to note that in the time between your first and second appointment, you may experience tooth sensitivity as a result of your teeth being slightly reduced in size.   For a full-range of high-quality dental care, schedule a consultation with one of our dentists at Glen Park Family Dentistry today!
